ABSTRACT

I leap at any opportunity to talk on flight safety as the price of ignorance – in terms of horrendous human suffering and financial costs. How often have you heard the expression – ‘it was harder in my day’. Older professionals and trade persons alike often use this expression. I had always considered the expression stemmed from functions previously done by hand, but now by machine. For example, the butchers graduated to power saws; the bakers graduated to mechanical dough mixers; and the candlestick makers, well I have never met one to find out.
