ABSTRACT

Fleet transition is a required and ongoing process for every airline. While fleet transition has a large number of operational and economic benefits, it also causes some short-medium-term problems. In many instances, operational benefits translate into almost immediate economic gain, however fleet transition requires considerable planning and investment relating to engineering, airport preparation, training and operational requirements. This chapter discusses the theory and practice of normal operations monitoring, with a particular emphasis on Australia’s successful low cost carrier Jetstar.
