ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the results of the application of the Structural Accessibility Layer (SAL) in the two areas of study: Greater Copenhagen (GC) and Greater Oporto (GO). The use of the SAL for the analysis of current land use and transport conditions for mobility encompasses two main results: first, the values of diversity of activities accessible by each transport mode group non-motorized, public transport and car and second, the analysis of accessibility clusters. The diversity of activity index by walking provides a comprehensive picture of the structure of centralities in a metropolitan area. The diversity of activity index by public transport gives us a representation of spatial distribution of public transport network as well as of public transport service level and activity density around public transport access points. The diversity of activities accessible by each transport mode in GO provides an overview of the accessibility classes for each transport mode, presented by area and population.
