ABSTRACT

Andrew Kirk during his visit to the L'Abri community in Britain was struck by 'the community's living integration of intellectual life with pastoral concern, prayer, evangelism, social commitment, and the ability to communicate the Gospel to a generation completely alienated from all God-talk'. The Church Mission Society (CMS), one of the oldest mission societies in Britain, has recently reframed itself as a Community of Mission Service and asks its members to commit to seven promises as part of being in this community. The Study Commission on 'Mission and Postmodernities' was co-chaired by Andrew. Andrew thinks epistemology and postmodernity is a vital area in which Christian mission must engage and that Christians have to work at producing a more convincing epistemological model. Laurie Green acknowledges the influence of Latin American liberation theologians on his model of theological reflection and picks up the language of liberation theology in his definition.
