ABSTRACT

This chapter describes tourist visits to a destination or location at least in part as a result of the destination being featured or portrayed as background or foreground of media productions on big or small screen. It also attempts to incorporate, integrate and theoretically discuss three key issues and concepts that should be taken into account in order to advance our understanding of tourist experiences associated with media-related tourism destinations. In recent years, there has been an increasing academic consideration of media-related tourism research, especially related to popular cultural media products such as films and TV series. Ireland is a host country to many successful Irish television series including Ballykissangel, Glenroe, Father Ted Show bands and Aifric. Media-related tourism in Ireland is a growing trend in recent years. Ireland is even becoming a firm favorite among filmmakers for its beautiful scenery and colorful cities.
