ABSTRACT

This chapter describes a unique testbed, operated by the Center for Network Innovation and Experimentation (CENETIX), which enables researchers to experimentally explore team decision-making in complex, data-rich situations. It discusses team collaboration data captured in this testbed, collected to validate a model of team collaboration. Collaboration across layers of the Global Information Grid (GIG) and C2 architectures is crucial for achieving missions as described in network-centric warfare doctrine. Proliferation of GIG services is expected to enable data sharing and collaboration between operational and tactical levels. The Naval Postgraduate School, Monterey, CA, is conducting a series of experiments that focus on detecting, identifying and interdicting nuclear materials in open waters. A Maritime Interdiction Operation involves a Coast Guard operation to search a suspect ship for contraband material and suspect persons where the basic scenario entails detecting a moving vessel emitting signs of ionizing radiation.
