ABSTRACT

Long-term care is defined as sustained help and support that is needed to cope and sometimes to survive when physical and/or cognitive disabilities impair the ability to perform the activities of daily living such as eating, bathing, dressing and walking (Grabowski, 2008). Definitions of long-term care often also include long-term health problems and older age as factors that create a need for help and support (e.g. Netten et al., 2012).
