ABSTRACT
I used to gaze at the words ‘Buenos Aires’ on tins of corned beef. Now I gaze at the form of Mercedes Sosa on her record covers, her mobile features expressing a whole range of emotions. For Argentina is the land of the magnificent Mercedes, often called ‘La voz de America Latina’.
