ABSTRACT

Times are changing faster than ever, and China too has been engulfed in the wave of change sweeping the world. Especially in the last 20 years, the rapid development of China’s economy has greatly influenced patterns in the global economy. The 2006 best-seller, When China Changes the World, authored by the French economist Erik Izraelewicz, explored the deep impact made by China on the world economy. However, China itself is the subject of profound changes, particularly the Chinese legal system as it relates to the economy, so the world has, in turn, changed China. This chapter describes such change through a Chinese legal scholar’s eyes in approaches to the Chinese economic law system: policy guidance, drawing on international rules, the promotion of social practices and cultural traditions, etc. These are the mechanics of how change has affected Chinese law.
