ABSTRACT

This chapter attempts to distil diverse kinds of community-based education and training practices that have emerged from the stories; practices that are at times implicit and other times made explicit by the authors. It aims to construct a community-based education and training framework, through drawing upon the theory and stories that have been shared. A framework is a conceptual structure that organises knowledge, philosophies, values and experience and names important dimensions of the work, so that practitioners can order their action. A framework assists community-based educators/trainers to organise their knowledge and experience of education and training, and furthermore to name important dimensions of their practice, enabling them to order education and training practices. The chapter provides a framework for practitioners who might be working intuitively, or flying by the seat of their pants so to speak. It initiates deeper reflection, and invite consideration of new practice wisdom, for practitioners who are already working with an education and training framework.
