ABSTRACT

Indian leaders work to create a sense of social mission. They have a high concern for employee development and try to increase their engagement by looking after the interests of their families as well. Indian leaders have long been involved in societal issues, investing in community services. This chapter presents a case study that is about a social entrepreneur coming from an academic background. Dr. Sunit Singh is working with 3,000 stonebreakers and agricultural labor families residing in rural areas of the Allahabad district located in southeastern parts of Uttar Pradesh, a northern province in India. The chapter concludes that there has been a profound influence of cultural context on the leadership and change management style of Dr. Singh. Family, school, and other social institutions have shaped his value system. He believes in taking a lesson from every situation of life, whether good or bad, which has helped him move ahead in life. He is a relationship-oriented leader.
