ABSTRACT

Sallie McFague, E. Rhodes and Leona B. Carpenter Professor of Theology Emerita from Vanderbilt University, is currently Distinguished Theologian in Residence at Vancouver School of Theology in Vancouver, B.C. 1 After graduating magna cum laude from Smith College in 1955, McFague became one of a very few women of her generation to seek graduate training in theology. She earned the B.D., M.A., and Ph.D. degrees from Yale University (awarded in 1959, 1960, and 1964, respectively). She assumed a teaching post at Vanderbilt in 1970, serving as the Divinity School’s dean from 1975 to 1979. She retired from Vanderbilt in 2000 and moved to Vancouver.
