ABSTRACT

This chapter examines that the hate crime and the manner in which the police deal with it, has historically consisted of problematic associations between what is low-level and high-level hate crime. Within this space, the international problems around jurisdiction mean that the police therefore have to work a number of different partners such as the internet companies when challenging online hate crime. The chapter also examines the new College of Policing strategy and guidelines with regards online hate crime. As noted above, this is increasingly difficult when examining issues of jurisdiction and policing online hate crime. These steps include: Police forces in England and Wales, can also work and liaise closely with internet service providers which can often help them trace and track down where the online hate has appeared. Sadly, it does appear that where there are issues of mistrust between the police and communities, then people are less likely to report online hate crime to the police.
