ABSTRACT

The United Nations Offi ce on Drugs and Crime was most grateful for the invitation to participate in the Conference on ‘International Cooperation and Counterterrorism’ held at the Faculty of Jurisprudence of the University of Trento on 29-30 April 2004. The theme of that encounter, and the analyses presented by several speakers relating to regional conventions against terrorism, were of great interest and relevance to UN anti-terrorism efforts. Indeed, the agenda was so full of valuable presentations that many of the stimulating topics that were raised could only be explored in depth outside the confi nes of the conference itself, including the subject of this chapter.
