ABSTRACT

This chapter discusses the theories of risk, crisis and disaster management in the context of global climate change with an emphasis on plants and food crops. It examines the views on how politics of the Risk Society has shifted thought on global climate change from the effects that climate change will have on human and other living populations, to how humans have brought climate change upon the earth. Specifically, the chapter explores how the effects of global climate change may be mitigated through adaptation of existing technology and application of focused risk management decision-making, resourcing and implementation. It offers ideas to the reader to consider as foundations for developing risk management strategies to seize upon opportunities to mitigate the risk of global climate change and to take advantage of opportunities presented by global climate change. The dynamics of global climate change occur at the nano-climate level and contribute to changes in the micro-climate.
