ABSTRACT

Nancy Leveson PhD is a systems engineer, professor of aeronautics, astronautics, and engineering systems at MIT and has written extensively on the subject of systems safety as it relates to technology and social constructs. She has won several research awards for her work in software and systems engineering study and has published extensively on these subjects. She consults in many industries and organizations on accident prevention, including aerospace, nuclear power, manufacturing, and patient safety. This chapter focuses on synthesizing Leveson’s work in systems safety and accident models and presents an implementation of this work in the field of healthcare.
