ABSTRACT

If time is taken initially to create a plan to which everyone agrees, then the main body of the project—with its regular meetings and updates—will run more smoothly. It is critical to get the timing right in any implementation plan, and this is no different for virtual teams. It is an ideal forum for generating the initial plan, and particularly the objectives of the team itself as a productive unit. Create a schedule of what information will be required, and by whom, at each stage of the project. Copies of plans that have been implemented or modified should all be archived, to provide a project memory, allow for retracing of steps and support learning on other virtual team projects in future. Once the project implementation plan has been created there should be a clear process in place for how the project tasks will be achieved in co-operation between the team members.
