ABSTRACT

Introduction As mentioned in earlier chapters, different travellers have different needs and thus have a different appreciation of the quality of service attributes. Providing an accessible transport service for all is important to ensure people are not excluded from reaching places of employment and health, education and leisure services, and also important to ensure equal life opportunities, and maintain a high quality of life for all travellers (Cats et al., 2014). However, at the same time, as different travellers have different needs and priorities, some individuals have more complex travel-activity patterns than others as they participate in daily activities at different times and in different locations (e.g. Golledge and Gärling, 2004). These priorities influence their appreciation and satisfaction with various transport factors of existing services and also the trade-offs between individual’s travel needs and desires (travel demand) and the availability and quality of the existing infrastructure (supply sides) (Costa et al., 1988; Diana, 2008; Li, 2003; Susilo et al., 2012; Susilo and Axhausen, 2014; Susilo and Cats, 2014).
