ABSTRACT

In this book we aimed to offer a global perspective on healthcare reform and its relationship with efforts to improve quality and safety. We examined the way reforms developed in multiple countries and the prospects for reforms, and specifically looked at the impact that national reform initiatives have-and have had-on the quality and safety of care. Our interest was in how reforms drive quality and safety improvement, and as a corollary, how they might inadvertently serve to undermine or negate such goals.
