ABSTRACT

This chapter presents the bibliography of Henri Fayol, Lyndall F. Urwick, Frederick W. Taylor and Harry Braverman. Fayol suggests that all activities to which industrial undertakings give rise can be divided into following groups: technical activities, commercial activities, financial activities, security activities, accounting activities and managerial activities. An organization must start with a plan, a definition of its goals. It must then initiate an organization structure appropriate to achievement of those goals. Much of what Urwick has said and written on general management has been arranged under Fayol's headings of forecasting, planning, organization, coordination, command and control. A leader should remember that there are four functions to role. These are: embodying and representing the organization; initiating thought and action; administering routine; and interpreting to others the purpose and meaning of what is done. The chapter also includes bibliography of Peter F. Drucker, Alfred P. Sloan, William Ouchi, Rosabeth Moss Kanter, Karl E. Weick, Thomas J. Peters and Robert H. Waterman.
