ABSTRACT

This chapter describes some of the different methods or opportunities for learning. KSA is an abbreviation for knowledge, skills and abilities, a series of narrative statements that are required when applying for federal government jobs in the US. KSAs are used along with resums to help select the best applicants. KSAs necessary for the successful performance of a position are contained on each job vacancy announcement. They emphasise previous accomplishments. Brainstorming asks that people free their minds to come up with ideas and thoughts that can at first seem to be a bit crazy. The hope is that some of these ideas can be crafted into original, creative solutions to the problem that you are trying to solve, whilst others can spark still more ideas. In group brainstorming bad behaviour can creep into a session and people start to criticise ideas. A person might fear ridicule that an idea is too dramatic, and boss approval becomes evident.
