ABSTRACT

The heart of Quaker ethics is summed up in the word 'Simplicity'. Simplicity is forgetfulness of self and remembrance of humble status as waiting servants of God. Outwardly, simplicity is shunning superluities of dress, speech, behavior, and possessions, which tend to obscure their vision of reality. The Quaker faith is not written in the form of a creed, but it is experienced in their lives as vibrant, living truth. The authors was delighted to ind the Quaker connection and encouraged to pursue this way of considering the issue of good and evil in own life, that of a contemporary Conservative Friend. There is a unity in desiring Friends to order their lives in such a way that material things and activities do not get in the way of our relationship with God, do not stop our ears or blind our eyes to the guidance that God is offering at every moment.
