ABSTRACT

In the morning of November 2004 controversial ¿lm maker and TV personality Theo van Gogh (distant relative of the painter Vincent van Gogh) cycled along Linnaeus Street in the Dutch capital, Amsterdam. He then was shot eight times by another cyclist, Mohammed Bouyeri, a 26 year-old Dutch-born male of dual Moroccan and Dutch nationality. The offender subsequently got off his bike, stabbed Van Gogh with a curved knife and pinned a letter on Van Gogh’s by now dead body with another knife. Bouyeri, arrested soon after the offence, eventually received a life sentence for the crime.
