ABSTRACT

Solicitors in England and Wales are governed by the Law Society as 'approved regulators' overseen since January 2010 by a Legal Services Board, and must pay an annual practising fee to the Law Society in order to practice. The day-to-day regulation of solicitors is the function of the Solicitors Regulation Authority (SRA), the independent regulatory arm of the Law Society. The SRA is a public interest regulator, regulating the provision of legal services by solicitors and colleagues working with them by making and ensuring compliance with rules and codes of conduct set and guidance given to maintain the standards of legal practice. The Forensic Investigations currently comprises a Head (HFI), six teams, of six investigators, each headed by an Investigation Manager, a Technical Advisor (TA) and a Performance and Review Manager (PRM). The Police and Criminal Evidence (PACE) legislation and its Codes are the mostly widely adopted legislation by non-police investigators.
