ABSTRACT

This chapter highlights the case study in a father daughter family business succession story within the context of the Greek culture of the past several decades. The Greek culture is guided by a historical duality a complex mixture of character constituents that have resulted from Greece's location between east and West and from the combination of classical with modern elements in the Greek national character. Climbing the social ladder to gain community recognition also explains the great value Greeks and their families attach to higher education, which is believed to be a prerequisite for success, social status, and economic prosperity. When examining the numbers of women in established entrepreneurship and family firms, the gender disparity is eliminated. Traditionally, the Greek cultural context of the auto mechanic industry does not favor women making sales calls or entertaining clients. This is still the case to a certain degree today especially in male-dominated sectors.
