ABSTRACT

This text aims to bring together a diverse range of multidisciplinary ideas to explore the extent of extremism within the present context of society living in a constant state of heightened alert due to the threat of terrorism. The book is multifaceted and covers the origins of extremism and as the new Prevent Strategy 2011 comes into force it provides a crucial link to getting a better understanding of UK government policy and the methods of tackling extremism from a policing and community level. The book will give a policing rationale alongside specific community means of tackling extremist threats, providing key details for policy readers as well as academics. The range, law and definition of extremism will be explored and the present trends and possible future of the forms of extremism and the ability to police extremism are considered. This book is designed to be a ‘one stop shop’ for all these aspects.
