ABSTRACT

After having analysed the experiences of nine European regions with developing new forms of partnerships, we are now about to draw conclusions. What can be learned from the case studies, and to what extent are these lessons transferable to other cities and regions? In section 2 we analyse the various forms of partnerships in the nine metropolitan regions. After that section 3 looks at the performance of the initiatives so far, followed by section 4 which discusses the relevance of context factors and organizational factors in the coalition-forming process. The final section comprehends some final remarks.
