ABSTRACT

This introduction presents an overview of the key concepts discussed in the subsequent chapters of this book. The book focuses on theories and definitions of acceptance and related concepts, and review a number of different models of driver acceptance. It examines at the scientific and practical issues around measurement of driver acceptance with a description of some of the main tools, techniques and metrics available and used. The book aims to provide a balanced treatment of driver acceptance of new technology, with contributions from experts in their field from around the world. It discusses the key themes that have emerged and identify future research, design and deployment needs in the area. The book presents case studies involving the measurement of driver acceptance of new technology, providing empirical data and findings on user acceptability and acceptance of a range of new technologies, and drawing also on experience from wider domains and perspectives.
