ABSTRACT

This chapter makes an analysis of contemporary urban interventions, highlighting those of an urban-cultural nature, and concludes with a criticism of the current spectacularisation of cities. We consider that the spectacularisation of cities, or the creation of the so-called spectacle-city, is directly related to a decrease of popular participation, which we perceive through the social and cultural gentrification of the areas where spectacular mediatic urban interventions are carried out at present.
