ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on the 15M to rethink the relations between mobilization and democratization processes in the Spanish society. The 15M movement has condensed and re-elaborated the numerous critiques of the political institutionalization process that have emerged over the decades, and has also embodied the collective consideration and rehearsal of alternatives. The movement can thus be defined as a popular laboratory for the crafting and evaluation of democratic practices. The chapter draws on the analyses offered by the colleagues and presents some ideas namely: the recent democratization wave promoted by social movements; the materialization of participatory democracy in face-to-face encounters; the cognitive remediation and network system crafted by the 15M movement; the move from the squares to political institutions and the updating of democratic representation; and the corollaries of the 15M movement, 6 years later.
