ABSTRACT

The way that organizational leaders behave, and in particular the way that leaders interact and deal with their direct reports, has been consistently shown to be a robust predictor of employees’ psychological and physical well-being (Kelloway and Barling 2010). In this chapter, we present case studies to demonstrate that transformational leadership can be trained across a multitude of industries and, more importantly, is likely to result in changes in followers’ perceptions, attitudes, development and performance. In addition, there is not one best way to train transformational leadership. Organizations can make use of group training or individual counselling sessions to help leaders change their leadership style and embrace the behaviours of transformational leadership. Leadership training is a proven intervention that promises to be an effective means of improving employee well-being in organizations.
