ABSTRACT

In this chapter, the authors describe the integration of occupational health, safety and health promotion into the existing structures for organizational quality and production improvement (e.g. Lean management) at a hospital in Sweden. They furthermore describe current research in the field of Lean management and integration of organizational systems. The chapter centres on the initial implementation of the integration at one department of the chosen hospital. The early phase of the project prevents any firm conclusions as to the overall effect of this initiative. However, thus far it seems that the initiatives fulfil many factors that have been described as prerequisites for successful organizational-level occupational health interventions.
