ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on the concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. The book emphasizes the wide range of innovations in tourism. It is a collection of articles on innovation, resource-based strategic management approaches, and hospitality and tourism management concepts. The book analyses successful innovation strategies by integrating the resource-based and the competence-based views and their advance into the dynamic capabilities approach and the relational view. It presents case studies, which recognize resources and competences as crucial for differentiation and innovation development. The book focuses on resources and competences as sources of competitive advantages; it recognizes the importance of external factors and the local environment in which a firm or other organization is based. The book points out the innovation in tourism require relationship-building, collaboration, and the ability of actors to cooperate and exchange their resources, competences and experiences. It shows that tourism businesses and destination managers are often ahead of researchers.
