ABSTRACT
Since 1979, China has been implementing its new policy to open up to the world and to reform its economic system. The reformation of the economic system is market-oriented and has been a big success. In China, the State adopts the policy of consumer protection and has played an important role to in carrying out this policy. Where a consumer files a complaint with the relevant administrative department, the department shall, within 7 working days of receipt of the complaint, process the complaint and inform the consumer. Consumer associations and other consumer organisations are social organisations legally formed to exercise social supervision over commodities and services and protect the lawful rights and interests of consumers. China Food and Drug Administration (CFDA) has a function to formulate the investigation and enforcement system for food, drugs, medical devices and cosmetics.
