ABSTRACT

We began this collection with a discussion about the perceived crises of urban children and nature, but as the intervening chapters have shown, young people negotiate diverse urban natures in a variety of ways to the best of their abilities. In calling attention to the multiplicity of natures and voices, the authors in this volume have revealed the richness of relationships between children and nature in cities. Progressing from definitional to political to planning perspectives on young people’s environments, the research in this volume has illustrated how important children’s lifeworlds are to broader conceptions of urban nature.
