ABSTRACT

One social group of the medieval Trogir commune is defined as being most responsible for the urban form of the city. This was the wealthiest patricians, who were the only citizens allowed to be members of the council, who compiled the regulations, created the institutions for their implementation, and were responsible for the introduction of new building styles. Despite constantly changing political circumstances and the fact that they were gradually losing political power, their role regarding the preservation of the existing urban layout and order, as well as the further embellishment of the built fabric, persisted for centuries.
