ABSTRACT

This chapter uses a small aircraft hangar construction project to illustrate network time analysis and, more particularly, resource scheduling. Resource scheduling can be a complex subject, but the most commonly used methods are described here and we show how a logical step-by-step approach can remove much of the mystery. Resource scheduling converts a project plan into a work schedule that takes account of the resources which can be made available. The chapter includes cash scheduling, because cash is a vital project resource. If cash flows are not correctly scheduled and managed throughout the project life cycle, especially for high-investment, long-term aircraft development projects sudden project death will result. The chapter provides time analysis for the Bild-Rite hangar project before resource scheduling. The activity list or task list for the hangar project is the principal tasks identified during the network brainstorming session, together with their estimated durations and the agreed resource requirements.
