ABSTRACT

This chapter will describe Highland Airways’ (HA) experiences with Public Service Obligation (PSO) tenders. The chapter is written in a subjective manner to shed light on how the PSO system has been perceived by this airline. Highland Airways has been tendering for PSO routes over the last ten years and currently operates two routes in Scotland and one in Wales. 1 Two of the routes are served by 19-seat BAe Jetstream 31 aircraft and one with a nine-seat Britten Norman 2 Islander. The experiences described here may hopefully be of relevance to others.
