ABSTRACT

This chapter will look at the challenge of designing and producing aircraft suitable for transporting passengers and goods on some of the most difficult routes in the world. The key aircraft which have been used, and are still being flown in such areas of the world, will be discussed along with those designs which are planned for entry into service in the near future. Finally a new aircraft design is proposed based on research work carried out by a postgraduate student at Cranfield University (Quéméneur, 2008).
