ABSTRACT
Intensified and accelerated global economic integration has quite obviously ambivalent effects on welfare accumulation and poverty reduction (Todaro and Smith 2003). Some of its mechanisms provide opportunities for overcoming poverty and underdevelopment, whereas others reinforce the risk of deepening global disparities.
