ABSTRACT

In its most often referred version, the concept of sustainable development is based on considerations regarding the three ‘pillars’: environmental, social and economical development. Even though the essence of the concept holds all three dimensions, it is sometimes feasible to consider development within one of the three dimensions, since such focus enables a more detailed evaluation of the development of the specific dimension. Since all three ‘pillars’ are essential for sustainable development, sustainable demands for each of them must be met before sustainable development can be achieved. However, it is important that all three areas are addressed simultaneously both individually and as a whole.
