ABSTRACT

This chapter explores the data challenges that constrain those interested in corporate sustainability from an investor perspective, first reviewing the need for refined metrics that respond to the diverse set of use cases for which investors want sustainability guidance. Second, it explores the environmental, social and governance (ESG) indicators available to investors in today’s marketplace and identifies the shortcomings of virtually all of these data sets. Finally, it highlights a path forward for those seeking to bring a sustainability lens to their analysis.
