ABSTRACT

This conclusion presents some closing thoughts on key concepts discussed in the preceding chapters of this book. An objective of the book was to cover aspects of value creation, assessment and measurement related to planned events, from multiple perspectives. The book explains the theme of the changing approach to the value of festivals and events and focuses on how these activities are perceived at the level of local government. The book specifically analyses value relationships between the city and the festival on three different levels. First, the role of the festival in generating urban development, related to the economic and tourism effects. Second, the role of the festival in supporting the local music sector and its value for the creative industries, particularly in terms of its ability to become a 'field-configuring event'. Third, the cultural effect generated for the host society.
