ABSTRACT

Sports as a form of popular culture, by their traditions, take different forms in accordance with different societies and cultures and sport in its traditional forms represents amusement within cultural diversities across the world. This chapter situates the application of technology in the process of popularizing cricket as a form of tourism. It considers cricket as a form of popular culture tourism in Bangladesh. The chapter examines innovative technology adoption in tourism and its role in propelling cricket to its current position in local popular culture. The chapter offers an understanding of popular culture in the context of cricket. Cricket becomes a popular culture element because the living style, presentations and customization of cricketers and popular sport tourists in reality represent their own cultural influences. The chapter explores the reasons that the application of technology supports cricket in becoming an element of popular culture.
