ABSTRACT

The area of Bloomsbury, in London, has been a firmly established literary district ever since it became the meeting place for a coterie of writers, artists, and intellectuals in the early twentieth century. This chapter focuses on the group's literary endeavors and thus literary tourism, and organizations, in the area. Tourism linked to popular culture and fandom is being increasingly recognized by tourism organizations, tourists, and academics. Literary tourism occurs when a writer, or novel, becomes so popular that fans of the writer or novel want to visit places associated with the writer or described in the novel. The literary landmarks, represented through the #literaryme hashtag, covered a much wider range of literary interests than just the Bloomsbury Group. A number of other non-traditional literary landmarks featured on the #literaryme hashtag. Among these, libraries and book publishers were particularly popular.
