ABSTRACT

This chapter outlines some future issues with respect to second homes. It notes the continued significance of second homes even though significant definitional difficulties exist. It also identifies new issues such as the development of the commercial second home. Three major issues are identified with respect to future research: sustainability, future demand and future use. In addition, significant policy issues are identified. The chapter concludes that demand for second homes will continue into the foreseeable future while research remains valuable for its capacity to shed light on individual behaviour and society at large within the context of home and multiple place attachments
