ABSTRACT

This chapter explores social media apps and information sharing over such apps from the consumer's/user's perspective. Social media apps work in tandem with e-Commerce apps housed on the mobile device and also maintain a record of users' shopping habits. Based on these recorded shopping habits, social media apps then notify users about the best deals, discounts and other promotions available. Social media apps also learn about users' media habits from their past Internet searches and other sources, and suggest new products that a user might like. In short, social media apps assist users in their shopping pursuits. Social media apps that access a user's location may, for example, use location data to send location-based promotional offers to the users on behalf of third parties. Most social media apps are available to users free of charge, that is, users do not have to pay any fee for downloading and using social media apps.
