ABSTRACT

Some inclusion programs, such as the Disney/ABC TV Writing Program, offer pay as engagement in the program and require full-time participation, in this case for a 12-month period. Other programs run anywhere from a few weeks to a few months and do not offer pay, but instead engage their participants in craft-driven coursework usually conducted in the evenings. For years, the Television Writing Programs were known widely as Television Writing Fellowship, a term still often used by the writers submitting to them. Regardless of staffing results or diversity implications, getting into a TV writing program represents a clear bulls eye, a tangible, attainable result, which one can prepare for and hopefully effectively drive toward. Every year, the TV writing program cycle begins with the early onset programs, whose requirements focus on original content. Each TV writing program requires its applicants to submit some combination of scripted materials as well as essays and personal statements.
