ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the modelling efforts tackling the nexus with different approaches and from several viewpoints that include direct and implicit links with the resource nexus as well as with a wider context of the nexus used in the frameworks. It reviews the main characteristics of current studies extending the nexus in macro-economic modelling along with further research that should help to bridge existing gaps. Albeit the primordial role that primary resources and input commodities play in production processes has remained invariant, the nexus conceptual frameworks have evolved in time varying in scope and goals. Modelling the resource nexus requires addressing the complex interactions and dynamics of its different components. Macro-economic models imply the synergic confluence of different disciplines and modelling tools. The chapter explores the implications of using the nexus in the analysis of mainstream issues such as sustainable development, climate change, poverty and nutrition.
