ABSTRACT

National newspapers tend to use dedicated 'fixers' to set up celebrity and high-profile interviews but most other journalists — and certainly those in the early stages of their careers – do not have that luxury. Sometimes a direct approach to the individual in question will work, while other people, particularly the rich and famous, will insist that jounalist will go via their agent, publicist, press officer or personal assistant (PA). Agents and PRs may ask journalists countless questions before they agree to set up an interview with a well-known figure. Once an interviewee has agreed to do an interview journalist will need to fix the time and the place. The chances are that if journalists are interviewing a well-known figure they would not be given a choice about the location, but if journalists are able to choose the place themself always opt for somewhere quiet and peaceful.
